Great Expectations
“Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest..” John 4:35
New Season but Old Expectations
When Jesus’ disciples arrived in Samaria they came with old expectations and did not expect anythingof significance to happen through their lives. To the disciples these people were simply Samaritans and they had not considered they could or should reach them. They were shocked when Jesus spoke into the life of the woman at the well and she was deeply impacted. Then an even more shocking and unexpected series of events followed, “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I ever did." John 4:39 When we limit God to our own experiences or current level of understanding we can miss great opportunities for Him to break into our lives and transform the lives of others. We need to ask God to give us eyes to see what He is wanting to do through us in this season and not go into situations with old expectations.
The Latest Fashion
Some people spend hours reading fashion magazines, watching fashion programmes and going from shop to shop searching for new items of clothing for the latest fashion every season. This takes a lot of time and money if you do it every season. If you are not into fashion this can seem like a great fuss and a waste of time and money. When a new season is here in God we can miss all the good things God has planned for us if we don’t take the time and effort to seek Him and get in the flow of what He is doing. There are times and seasons in God that we need to keep in step with. That’s one of the reasons why our lives as Christians are an adventure. There are always new things to look forward to, even if life seems to be going along as normal in the natural.
Partner With God
“Now it came about on the third day that Esther put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king's palace in front of the king's rooms, and the king was sitting on his royal throne in the throne room, opposite the entrance to the palace. When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king extended to Esther the golden scepter which was in his hand. So Esther came near and touched the top of the scepter.” Esther 5:1-2 We know God is in control and yet as Esther discovered we cannot simply be passive if we want to see God’s destiny fulfilled in our lives. Just as Esther had favour with the King, we too have a sceptre of favour extended to us. As His sons and daughters we have access to all that our Father the King of Kings has for us. But we have to partner with God and not only seek Him and pray but act. Those without God have to strive and do everything in their own strength and wisdom. As favoured sons and daughters of the King of Kings we should partner with Him and do only what He shows us to do for the fulfilment of our destiny. How much better this is, as God’s wisdom is always higher than man’s wisdom and His ways of doing things are always superior and yet so full of goodness towards us and those around us. Let’s allow God to break into our lives at this time and fill us with great expectation and the means to see the fulfilment of every good thing He has for us.
With our love and prayers,
Pastors Phil and Caroline.
